Leg Veins
Since the 1930s, sclerotherapy has remained the “gold standard” of treatment for leg veins; modern lasers used to remove blood vessels on the face and elsewhere on the body are not as effective in treating leg conditions.
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure in which a solution is injected through a micro-needle into the blood vessel, displacing the blood in that vein. The solution causes a series of reactions inside the blood vessel. Over a period of weeks, the vein fades and eventually disappears.
Immediately after treatment, the legs are wrapped with compression bandages or support hose. Although walking and normal activities may be resumed immediately, excessive exercise should be avoided for several days. Multiple treatments are usually necessary to achieve optimal results.
